Concert Choir is a group of AHS junior and seniors. These students create the best large choir from Annandale High School. The singers rehearse daily, section practice weekly, perform three concerts per year, and participate in MSHSL sanctioned contests for Large Group Contest. Individuals from the choir are encouraged to compete in the MSHSL Sub-Region Vocal Solo-Ensemble Contests.
· Daily rehearsal is held for 39 minutes. A high priority is mastering new music for each concert program. Building individual musicianship, creativity, teamwork, and music literacy are important long-range goals.
· Each section rehearses for 15 additional minutes per week with Mr. Sellheim. This sectional time is a valuable tool to clarify pitches, develop vocal tone and enhance musical presentation.
· Three concerts per year encourage our choir to set goals and work hard.
· The annual Sub-Section Large Group Contest is held at a host school in Sub-Section 17. High school choirs perform for a panel of three judges who evaluate each group. These large ensembles compete against the standard of a quality high school performing group. AHS Concert Choir participates in this competition annually.
· Vocal Solo-Ensemble contests are opportunities for individuals to sing a solo and/or small groups of students to perform a duet, trio, quartet (or some similar group) for a judge. In preparation for this contest students from grades 11 and 12 have lessons with Mr. Sellheim. Individual performance musicianship is encouraged through this experience.
· Smartmusic assignments are used to assess student's individual growth as singers and musicians.
